A cozy garden game where you write real Python to wake the creatures that tend it.

Free while it is in playtest. Nothing to install. For complete beginners, 10 and up.

Play, the trail mapSchools, the keeper's cottageHow to play, the clay golemWhat you learn, the runestone

Point at the golem, the cottage or the runestone to open a page.

Slide the garden sideways to see the rest of it.

Try it on your phone

A minute in the first garden, right here. No code needed.

Windwright plays on a computer with a keyboard, not on a phone. Send it to yourself and play it there later.

The clay golem beside the flower bed it waters.

How it works

Clay golemTasks

Soak the dry ground with your loop

Inside the loop, walk to the spot, then pour one drop. Both lines are pushed in four spaces.

Clay golemThe Tangled Hollow

  1. dry = [(8, 6), (7, 6), (6, 6), (5, 6), (4, 7), (4, 8)]
  2. for spot in dry:
  3. move_to(spot)
  4. water()

move_to and water are the golem's own words, in blue. The rest is ordinary Python.

Wake runs it a line at a time. The lit line is where the golem has got to.

The runestone at the back of the clearing, its runes carved in rows.

What you learn

Eight clearings, each with new ideas in real Python.

  1. The First Clearing print, names, if
  2. The Tangled Hollow lists, for, while
  3. The Stone Terraces def, not
  4. The Forked Path dictionaries, and, or, elif
  5. The Counting Brook names that change, sums
  6. The Hundred Steps range(), a loop in a loop
  7. The Gathering Ledger parameters, append, return
  8. The Night Garden while True, break, f-strings

Every clearing, with real lines

The Keeper's cottage, with the trail map on its post beside the path.

Teachers and schools

Students type real Python from the first task, with nothing to install and no student accounts, emails or names.

Free pilot classes run in fall 2026.
